Our self-service password reset system for Active Directory allows you to reduce you help-desk costs by allowing your users to reset their own forgotten Active Directory passwords. Our system includes the use of two-factor Password Reset Cards which are issued to the users to provide a more secure password reset process.

Components

Reset Service

This service is easily installed on a Domain Controller and controls the password reset process. The reset service requires a connection to a Microsoft SQL server on which to store the SSR database.

Administration Executable

The administration executable can be run from a Domain Controller or administrators PC. The following features are provided:

Enrolment Executable

The Enrolment Executable is provided as a standalone executable file. There are many flexible deployment options you can use to roll-out the Enrolment Executable across your domain. When your end users launch the executable they are prompted to answer three security questions (chosen at random from the central list)  and enter the serial number of the Password Reset Card they have been issued. The application then closes, making a quick and easy enrolment process, on average will only take your users 30 seconds to complete.

The Enrolment Executable only transmits the SHA hash of the answer across the network, so even the system administrator is unable to see the answers that users have given to security questions.

Reset Executable

The Reset Executable is also provided as a standalone executable file. We provide full instructions for a secure deployment method that involves setting up a locked-down generic user account for users to run when they forget their password. Once launched the Reset Executable will prompt users for their user name, after that they will be prompted for the serial number and one code from their Password Reset Card. Once the user has been authenticated with their Password Reset Card they will be asked for the answers for their 3 security questions. Provided that is successful the users will be given the opportunity to reset their Active Directory password.
